Drink Recipes For Happy Holidays

There are so many things to think about and to plan for the holidays.  Your friends at Cafe Mojo want to help make things a bit easier for you.  Here are some delicious drink recipes.

It's the time of year for egg nog.  The following are a just a few of the many recipes out there.  Have a look and choose your favorite one, or tow, or three!

Delicious Egg Nog

Ingredients:

• 6 Egg yolk
• 1/2 cup white, granulated Sugar
• 2 cups Milk
• 2 cups Light rum
• 2 cups Whipping cream
• Nutmeg

Mixing instructions:

Beat yolks until light. Add sugar and mix well. Add milk and rum. Mix well, then chill for at least 3 hours. One hour before serving, whip cream and stir into chilled mixture. Return to refrigerator for an hour. Serve in punch cups and dust with nutmeg. Serves 20.

Whiskey Egg Nog

Ingredients:

• 2 oz Blended whiskey
• 1 tsp Powdered sugar
• 1 whole Egg
• 5 oz Milk
• Nutmeg

Mixing instructions:

Shake all ingredients (except nutmeg) with ice and strain into a collins glass. Sprinke nutmeg on top and serve.

Healthy Egg Nog

Ingredients:

• 1/2 cup Egg substitute
• 3 tblsp Sugar
• 13 oz skimmed Condensed milk
• 3/4 cup skimmed Milk
• 1 tsp Vanilla extract
• 1 tsp Rum flavoring (or 3 oz rum)
• Nutmeg

Mixing instructions:

Whip egg substitute and sugar together, combine with the two kinds of milk, vanilla, and rum. Mix well. Chill over night. Sprinkle with nutmeg. Makes 6 servings.

The holidays are not just for Egg Nog!  Here are some more favorites!

Hot Mulled Cider

Ingredients:

• Apple cider
• 1-2 Orange, washed
• whole Cloves
• Cinnamon sticks
• Nutmeg

Mixing instructions:

Dump cider, cinnamon sticks and a couple of teaspoons of nutmeg into a pot over very low heat. Slice oranges (after washing them well!!), and stick whole cloves into the rind, then float in cider as it warms. That's it. Drink when it gets warm. You can dump more cider into it up to a point when the spices get old - then just start again with a new set of spices, and a new orange.

Irish Coffee

Ingredients:

• 1 1/2 oz Irish whiskey
• 1 tsp Brown sugar (Demerara)
• 6 oz hot Coffee
• Heavy cream

Mixing instructions:

Combine whiskey, sugar and coffee in mug and stir to dissolve. Float cold cream gently on top. Do not mix.

Shocking Chocolate

Ingredients:

• 1 oz Cinnamon schnapps (Aftershock)
• 1 cup Hot chocolate

Mixing instructions:

Heat the hot chocolate and add the cinnamon schnapps

Thanksgiving Beers

Thanksgiving preparations are in full swing.  You've planned the appetizers, main course, and desserts.  You have the decorations and the table is set.  What's left?  Drinks!  What drinks will go with your meal?

Whatever meal you have planned, Cafe Mojo can help you pair a fantastic drink. The Pilgrims most likely enjoyed ale with their meal, so here is a guide to choose your brew:

• Traditional Turkey - Amber ale or lager like Oktoberfest, brown ale, or a strong golden ale like triple
• Smoked Turkey- a hoppy brown ale, Scotch ale, or porter
• Ham- Weizen, weizenbock, dubbel or dark lager
• Pumpkin Pie- Spiced ale, winter warmer or old ale

If you're planning on serving a turkey, you can go one step further and use your choice of ale to baste the turkey while it cooks.

• melt one stick of butter
• mix 12 ounces of ale with the butter
• pour over the turkey
• baste with the beer butter approximately every 20 minutes
• about halfway through the cooking time, pour another 12 ounces of ale over the turkey
• continue to baste approximately every 20 minutes

Unusual Halloween Movies

Who's ready for some frightfully good fun?  Here at Cafe Mojo we are! We'd like to share some unusual horror movies for you to enjoy.  Grab a blanket, light a fire, maybe even some Cafe Mojo take out and enjoy!

Trick r' Treat veers off of the standard madman terrorizes teens plot and follows a more Tales From The Crypt format. Starring Anna Paquin, this movie sucks you in right from the beginning.  Here is an excerpt from the official website:

The Last Exorcism is a documentary style film.  Here is a summary written by Jason Buchanan for Rotten Tomatoes:

October Fun at Cafe Mojo!

There's some spooky mojo brewing down at Cafe Mojo during the month of October.  You know we like to have fun, party, and serve great food and Halloween gives us more reasons to do so!

Friday night Karaoke has been such a hit that we will have it every Friday night in October, November, and December!  No charge to sing!  Come early and get 1 free drink per entree!

Mojo's 8th Annual Halloween Bash takes place on Friday October 28th beginning at 9 pm.  Come on down and wear your costume!  Free Spooky Jello Shots, $5 Bloody Margaritas, & $5 Spiked Cauldron Juice!

Costume Bingo! Saturday,  October 29th beginning at 8 pm, Kenny Dash (comedian/female impersonator)  will host costume bingo.  Come in Fancy Dress and get a free small Nachos  for the table!

Cafe Mojo Celebrates Our 8th Anniversary!

Cafe Mojo is proud and excited to announce our 8th anniversary serving up fun and great food in West Islip!  We have worked hard to create a fun and welcoming environment and would like to thank our loyal customers for coming along on this journey with us!

Cafe Mojo brings a taste of Manhattan to West Islip.  We offer entertainment, games, and a lively atmosphere for people of all ages to enjoy.  Change is a part of life here at Cafe Mojo so it never gets dull!  New specials, new drinks, new entertainment ..... are added frequently.

Our most recent additions include the Beers from Around the World Club and Saturday night Drag Bingo.  Looking ahead, we have tons of fun planned for October/Halloween!  Stay tuned for details!

Thank you to everybody who came down Friday night, September 23rd, to celebrate our anniversary with us!  Thank you also to our fabulous staff who work so hard to help make Cafe Mojo the friendly, fun place that it is!  We look forward to spending the next year with you all!
